What crossovers do you like, or want to see?

(Full disclosure: I like them both but I like Vriska more than Equius.)

So I think calling what either of them did rape is overstating things.

But I think what *Equius* did was worse.

Vriska seemed really horrible to Tavros, but from what we know now about troll romance and the fact she apparently had a crush on him the whole time it seems less like her being AN IRREDEEMABLE BITCH WHORE and more like it was flirting.

Really fucked up flirting but the trolls have an entire type of relationship based on mutual hate so they're all really fucked up.

Here's how I see it: Vriska has a crush on Tavros. And she's pretty good at hurting people, so she goes for blackrom because she figures people hate her a lot and she can do it.

And then he doesn't hate her. And she keeps trying to get him to hate her and nothing works! All her friends hate her over just crippling him, but he's the one she crippled and he just won't hate her! She makes fun of his interests and his lusus and puts stairs everywhere and WHY WON'T HE HATE HER SHE'S DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT. People hate her all the time! She has so many people competing to hate her! She is a prime hate-catch! Why won't he realize this? She mocks him for being crippled! She tells him to apologize, to her, for being crippled and still nothing!

So finally she figures that if that doesn't work then fine, it doesn't matter what kind, if he can't feel hate she'll go for red. She can do this. He likes flarping, she likes flarping, she knows he really loves Pupa Pan, she'll start being nice and then kiss him and they'll be matesprits!

And then that doesn't work and she reacts the same way she always does, by lashing out with mind control.

But she doesn't take advantage of him once she's controlling him, she lets him go almost immediately and goes off to sit by herself and be sad over it. It doesn't seem like a serious attempt to force him into a relationship. And it seems she stops abusing Tavros after that and is nice-ish to him.

TL;DR: All her abuse of Tavros seems like (really badly thought out) blackrom flirting attempts rather than cruelty for the sake of it, and once she gives up on getting him to like/hate her she stops.

Equius, now... What he did to Aradia was far less traumatic than what Tavros went through, but he doesn't have the excuse of not thinking it through.

He very meticulously planned it out, down to replacing her blood so she'd be a suitable mate. (I am not making the obvious racial comparison here.) Now he's six solar sweeps old and I'm sure he was thinking true love rather than roofies. But her saying no doesn't seem to have been on the table and we don't know what he'd have done if she rejected him. (For all we know she did reject him once already, and that's why he went to the lengths he did.)

He does seem to have been trying to make friends with her normally a bit before that, but he definitely never made an attempt like Vriska's to get her to legitimately like him... either he didn't know how to go about it OR he figured she didn't like him and nothing but the chip would change that.

TL;DR: Equius seems to care more about a romance with Aradia than Aradia herself and he had plenty of time to think about what he was doing, but did it anyway. He probably didn't have especially bad intentions but it's still pretty messed up. What he did was overall less of a big deal than Vriska, but he also had less of an excuse for it.

So what's your interpretation? (And which of them do you like better as a character?)

I like the trolls. Seriously, they've been my favorite part of the comic.
And I enjoy some of the troll artwork I've seen.

Perhaps I should feel bad. The other parts of the comic deserve love too.

Also- Equis is entertaining, like a parody of several jerks I know.

I'd like to know how things shake out on average in the fandom, or at least the tiny drop of fandom that's ended up hanging out here.

There's a lot of talk on this meme about Vriska and Equius. People are really divided about them, especially Vriska. I haven't been in this fandom for a super long time, but it seems like the only other times people have debated so fiercely was back when people used to hate Jade and a little debate about whether Terezi should be punished for murdering John (or if she'd even done it in the first place). I don't want another thread to debate "who's raping who" or whatever. I just want to get some meta. Has the fandom ever had such an intense, long-term schism before? What about these characters is so divisive? What do you think about their narrative purpose and Andrew's motivation for creating them?

I thought it was so awesome when I first encountered it, and it seemed like the people involved had this whole storyline planned in their heads for all the pictures....and now it doesn't seem like it'll ever be updated again.

I really want those episode scripts...

It just occurred to me that this is probably a really good setup for TROLL BIOLOGY DISCUSSION and also that I can't possibly be the only one going crosseyed over it.

Every time a female character does something bad or just aggressive, it gets reduced to HUGE BITCH (LOL). Even if the thing wasn't a big deal, it has to be talked about like it was because otherwise we couldn't work the phrase in.

I know some people want to reclaim it but you can't. When you say "Wow she's a bitch!" and mean she's awesome, what they hear is "How dare she, she needs to be put in her place."
