It is what all the cool memes are doing nowadays!
The only rule is, don't be a total passive-aggressive douche. This isn't the place to spew all your vitriolic unrequited blackrom feelings for other members of of our dear fandom--or if you can't resist, at least don't mention them by name, that shit is just a little too petty. If it gets out of hand I'll ban you so fast Karkat would be impressed.

If it's okay to talk about Vriska/Tavros OOC fluff, then why can't people point it out when the same applies to the popular slash ship.
The slashers DO erase the canon love interests, they DO erase the rest of the girls, they DO ignore the characters' personalities in favor of making them generic yaoiboys, and that IS why I can't stand the pairing. That it's popular is just icing on the cake. You can argue with me about if I'm wrong about John/Karkat being like that, but ordering people not to say it at all because it's ~ship bashing~ is idiotic.

I never understood the argument of erasing canon love interests. Fic doesn't have to be canon, you don't have to go into why Karkat's not with Terezi in a slash fic anymore than you have to go into why Terezi's not with Karkat in a femslash fic. Their canon love interest is not the point of the story.
Erasing girls can definitely be a problem in a plot fic, though. I've stopped reading a few otherwise decent fics because the girls just never seemed to be mentioned even when it makes perfect sense for them to be. In a slash porn fic, though, it's understandable. You're not writing about the girls then, you're writing about two guys fucking.
Point out the issues in a ship all you want, just don't be a jerk about it. Don't insult the whole ship and don't insult the people that like it. It's not that hard.

See, I would actually be totally fine if this was restricted to PWP fic. If ladies want to write about boys fucking, then go for it. But most of the slash is not PWP. It is just boys. All boys, all the time. There is a fuckton of John/Karkat out there that has no fucking in it.
