It is what all the cool memes are doing nowadays!

The only rule is, don't be a total passive-aggressive douche. This isn't the place to spew all your vitriolic unrequited blackrom feelings for other members of of our dear fandom--or if you can't resist, at least don't mention them by name, that shit is just a little too petty. If it gets out of hand I'll ban you so fast Karkat would be impressed.

Other than that, hop to it, anons. And TITLE YOUR THREADS it could get pretty confusing all up in here if you didn't!

PS, as one kind anon pointed out, if you want to see the comments in chronological order instead of thread format, put ?view=flat after html in the URL. Or click here, whatever.

'One, I don't know where you got the idea that if there's one really popular fic that does it right, that's more important than if nine out of ten fics do it terribly. The discussion has, since the beginning, been about the ship in general, about what people in general are writing.'

to be honest surely common sense dictates this

if fandom supports it when it is being done correctly should fandom really be hoisted up to the gallows for the fic that isn't getting signal boosted and rightly so, because offensive writing is bad writing

i don't see why we can't have the conversation about how it's fallacious to discuss the generalities when fandom's approval is being given to the specifics, because i don't think it's derailing to say this is the wrong conversation to be having in the first place

i think that this is a wanky discussion to begin with and weasel word accusations of what some people generally do in the probably time when they usually write is just the same thing only a little more quiet and a little more dishonest

i will start a secondary discussion, just not now. i'd like to say i appreciate you keeping a cool head in your responses when i have said some incendiary things and that i think there's a lot of frustration and anger and i hope we come to a better fannish experience for everyone, because that's all anyone wants i guess

that and a pony

Well, we're discussing both the writers and the readers here. So while the discussion of what the readers support is interesting, and I do look forward to discussing the popular fic with you, even if all the popular fics are fail-free that doesn't absolve the ship writers of the bad stuff. It would be nice to see if fandom-at-large rewards or shuns it, though.

This thread has probably gone on too long. I can barely even keep track of which argument is which, and that kind of thing is never conductive to good discussion.
