Between the troll vocab and the huge monster behind Jake (a lusus?), I'm beginning to suspect that the alpha session has a few more trollish elements mixed into it than we were initially led to believe. But even if her multicultural vocabulary is actually something rather commonplace, she remains completely and utterly awesome. I know who I'm going to be rooting for in the alpha session.

I just want to know what people think of this kind of fanworks. Is it the best thing in HS fandom ever, or just plotless indulgent OOC comic? IS MCR prettyboy Gamze still our Gamzee or entirely different character with the same name? Please discuss, anons.

I don't understand the obsessive hate on most of the fandom has for 4chords. I don't really understand the obsessive love either but the hate seems especially ridiculous. Yeah, it's OOC, a little plotless, and almost certainly just an excuse to have pretty boys kissing but honestly why care so much? The artist is having fun and people are having fun reading it, if you don't like it just ignore it when it comes up on your dash. All the rage I've seen over it and especially that damn hate-blog are way over the top.

I'm just pleased at her referencing palemance, waiting for people to either start throwing a fit about a human character talking in troll romance terms. Kind of pleasantly surprised to see no one doing so thus far.

4chords is pretty bad. It's not written very well; not just the characters and plotlessness but the dialogue is unmemorable and generic and I don't think she makes very good use of her panels (a lot of them seem to be taken up by surprised face shots, for example). She is a good artist but the muted tones she uses makes everything feel dull and lifeless, and that's amplified by the extremely simple backgrounds in most of the panels. It baffles me why she chose to use such a boring brown palette for Homestuck fanwork because Homestuck itself is so vibrant and I know she is capable of doing better.

For more petty complaints, I really hate how she draws Sollux because he is so manly and confident-looking and I don't think it suits him at all. He hasn't really been in the comic but based on the art and what she's said about him he seems to be the most out of character. Tavros' portrayal bothers me for a reason I can't quite put my finger on; he's a pushover in canon but he's not a weak blubbering damsel-in-distress, and I think 4chords is pushing him a little too far into the latter category. The scene with them kissing on the bed was just... no. This page (http://averyniceprince.tumblr.com/post/12516043106/thank-fuck-okay-from-now-on-i-think-the-updates) was particularly bad for Vriska, she would never freak out like that, although I appreciate that in a work centered around Gamzee and Tavros she's not being played as generically evil and unfeeling. Gamzee has the most whined about characterisation by far but nothing really sticks out to me as totally wrong at this point in time.

I also hate that all the girls are always in sexy outfits sitting sexily whenever she draws them outside of the comic proper, though before captchalogue piles on this one point it's not actually a huge double standard because she also draws the guys [not as overtly] sexualised. She's probably straight so she does male pinups in a way that is legitimately hot to her and does female pinups in a way that she's picked up from other sources, and she just draws more female pinups because they're more fun to do. So this complaint is largely irrational. I'm just tired of the girls in short skirts sticking their butts out for the camera.

ALL THAT BEING SAID it's not a plague on the fandom and the hateblogs dedicated to 4chords are fucking stupid. People are allowed to like it as much as I'm allowed to dislike it, and I don't think Emi is a bad person or a hack deliberately pandering to the ~~~~~yaoi fans~~~~~ so she can get more followers. She's having fun doing it.

There was something about a landdweller/seadweller divide, wasn't there? I could have sworn Equius or someone said something to that affect, in an Alterniabound maybe? The landdwellers only seem to care about the hemospectrum up to indigo. Equius treats Gamzee like the top dog while Eridan gets no respect from anyone, forced or otherwise. It's like it reaches a high point at indigo then dips for violet, and then you have the tyrian Empress at the top.

I've had the impression that the troll government works a bit like Japan's feudal system did--the Empress/Emperor (tyrian) is a presigious figurehead position with the court nobility directly below them (violet), but it's the shogun (Grand Highblood) and daimyo (other indigo) who hold true power as warlords. The Empress may appoint the Grand Highblood and he is free to make his own laws and enforce them on a national level; she can also dispose of him if she feels he's doing a shit job of it. The point to understand there in relation to Dualscar's execution is that the Grand Highblood answers only to the Empress, that he was trusted by her, and that Dualscar was an unfavoured noble who offended the right hand of the Empress to his face. If he's anything like Eridan his crime was probably something as simple as being too pompous and acting as if the colour of his blood meant he could issue orders to the Grand Highblood.

His execution might have also been a cause (or at least contributor) to the sea/land schism. Violets don't like that a lower caste can order their deaths as he chooses, blue and indigo think that violets are just a useless caste with bloated self-importance and don't want to hand over any power to them. An unjust execution would really aggravate tensions between the two groups.

But honestly, some of the shit she pulled was not oKaY by human or troll standards (eg fooling john, helping create bec noir, tormenting tavros, manipul8ing people) and it pissed me off a bit that she didn't get her just desserts for it.
