Christ, I would be so happy if Rose and Kanaya never interacted again.

Subject lines are back :] Or at least I think they are.

I upgraded this to a Plus account because I noticed non-basic accounts kept the old kind of commenting with subject lines etc. since they have custom comment pages. I hope this new look for the meme isn't obnoxious, or is at least less obnoxious than the abysmally shitty upgraded version. If it's too hard or annoying to read please comment so that I can change the journal layout to something better. For now I want to see if this works (it is the same style captchalogue has had since conception, for those who haven't ventured outside of this post).

There ARE ads at the top and bottom of the page now, but I think they are relatively innocuous and can be easily hidden by an adblocker.

Okay, they are back. Things are pretty much back to the way they were before, only fancier.

I've been away for a week so I didn't know about any of the site changes until now. It seems the kink meme is thinking of moving to dreamwidth? Should we follow them? Should I not bother and let captchalogue live out the rest of its quiet life here?

I'd prefer moving. The custom workaround is pretty flimsy, and they've said they plan to remove subject lines from custom styles as well next. Plus they're probably going to force some new awful change on us soon.

I'd prefer to stay, for now. The custom workaround works well enough here, we don't usually have threads long enough to break the layout. If LJ does go ahead with the proposed changes to S2 and takes away the subject lines there too, I'd say move but right now I say just wait and see what happens. (Which I believe is what the kink meme is doing right now as well.)

I'd stay for now, that way by the time you do move any issues with the community import process should be ironed out (assuming you want to import it across?)

I know this is a facetious comment (probably) but I really did hope Kanaya would stay with Sollux and Aradia at the Green Sun instead of going with Rose & co.

If Kanaya had stayed behind I would be more sure that we'd actually get to see them doing something and maybe visit dead characters, because the narrative wouldn't leave Kanaya behind like it has repeatedly for Sollux and Aradia. I didn't ship Kanaya/Vriska but it would have been nice for them to meet up and reconcile in a dream bubble, because there wasn't really any resolution to that plot thread.

And it's not like Kanaya's really alive either, she has a big gaping hole in her abdomen. She's deader than Sollux is.

Kanaya can still talk to a dead Vriska, they'll be passing through bubbles on the three year journey. It will be like how Rose was piloting the moon but she could talk to a dream bubble Dave just fine. Even with Jack right behind them they wont slow down and have three years to sort out feelings or whatever with the dead.

Yeah, the Kanaya-Vriska thing was just an aside. I still think we're less likely to see any interaction between them if she is on the meteor, even if she technically has 3 years to do it. We don't have 3 years out of story-time, after all.

Sollux has a related problem. He HAS gone though a lot of shit over the course of the game and it's understandable why he'd rather stay at the Sun, but it doesn't feel like that's true because we haven't really seen him interact with other characters or voice any of his own opinions. We've just seen him get bullied by the narrative, basically, in very small, urgent chunks. Dialogue and character downtime give the illusion that time is passing, so when most of it gets skipped over we feel like it's all happening in a span of a few minutes, even if the story tells us otherwise. Kanaya on the other hand, we've seen her bother numerous people, have her heart broken, calm down Karkat with a story about troll Christmas Eve, etc.--her storyline feels way longer than Sollux's even though the same amount of time has passed for both of them and they are probably close in number of appearances. Aradia might be in a slightly better situation because she's had more talking scenes but she's still suffering from a lack of defined personality. I just think they would both benefit a lot from going with the rest on the meteor, or someone else who is treated as less of a plot device and more of a person [Kanaya] stayed with them to help. It'd link them more closely to the active area of the story in either case.

It just seems like a really odd storytelling decision to have Kanaya volunteer to stay but not go through with it? There are more benefits to stay than to leave? What are the benefits of her leaving anyway, aside from keeping Kanaya/Rose alive?

da - Kanaya leaving means she gets to satisfy her own goals re:not being a total loser, and also she gets to tie into the creation theme the game/Homestuck has going via her intent to try restoring the troll race. It's part of the hopefulness the comic has despite all the miserable death also inherent in it.
