It is what all the cool memes are doing nowadays!

The only rule is, don't be a total passive-aggressive douche. This isn't the place to spew all your vitriolic unrequited blackrom feelings for other members of of our dear fandom--or if you can't resist, at least don't mention them by name, that shit is just a little too petty. If it gets out of hand I'll ban you so fast Karkat would be impressed.

Other than that, hop to it, anons. And TITLE YOUR THREADS it could get pretty confusing all up in here if you didn't!

PS, as one kind anon pointed out, if you want to see the comments in chronological order instead of thread format, put ?view=flat after html in the URL. Or click here, whatever.

I can excuse his clothes because black hoodie/purple tshirt/baggy jeans/tattoo sleeve isn't too far out there, he's supposed to be a young adult and it's still in the realm of something he might wear. Terezi's outfit with the heels and high stockings and miniskirt is way more jarring (is it really a good idea to wear four inch stilettos if you're blind? Come on Terezi you're more practical than that). And idk I guess musical interests change over time, and he might like both genres of music. I'm willing to bend on that stuff.

I think the reason why he's not as glaringly out of character to me is because there isn't a lot of him that's exactly flat-out wrong with him like Sollux and Vriska, just things that are missing, so there's a chance that those pieces will be filled in later on. But yeah now that I really think about it he's completely missing the core of his character here: he's very spiritual, he wants to believe the best in people, and when all is said and done he's really fucking pessimistic but tries to drown it out because he doesn't want to be that way. I haven't really seen any of those facets in 4chords' Gamzee, not even the spirituality which is a really huge obvious important part of him that is insanely hard to miss. You don't really need to make a big deal out of it ofc but like... just anything on his person to show that religion is a part of his life, a prayer bead bracelet or a religious symbol on his tattoo sleeve instead of that star, or even just something in his house somewhere. And the whole drug thing is missing too obviously except in a few pictures where he's casually smoking cigarettes (does that even count) and though I'm willing to accept that since he's older he's stopped using, it doesn't feel very realistic or true to the character. If anything I think it would get worse as he got older. His coping methods seem to amount to finding ways to ignore problems or twist his perception of them so they don't seem like problems to him anymore; drugs are a pretty damn good distraction and with a personality like his I think it would be very difficult for him to kick the habit for good. Irresponsibility comes along with the whole package. I never noticed before but he does seem oddly put-together in 4chords?? I wouldn't say he is overly confident in it though, since he's pretty forward
in canon and can brush off a lot of things that should really hurt, like the fact that everyone thinks that he's stupid and his religion is a big joke. Eridan rips him up in that one log for literally no reason and he doesn't even bat an eye.

He went completely ballistic in canon largely because he'd lost his faith, which shows that he actually had an abysmally negative idea of what the world was like and clung to religion so much because he desperately didn't want it to be true. In the "how Gamzee got his scar" story I think it would be more in character for him not to fight back, just sit there and marvel at how this guy can be so cruel for no reason. He would be deeply ashamed of those scars but not for the reasons given (people avoid him because they think he's a thug)--they're a highly visible, inescapable and permanent reminder that sometimes people are terrible. He wakes up in the morning and catches a glimpse of his face in the mirror and whoops that one-sided barfight is in the front of his mind again. In the AU he only starts with the face paint after he got the scars which I think works pretty well symbolically for what he is like but I'm not sure she was really aiming for that. Also that's a bit depressing for a comic mostly focused on dudes kissing so it's not to say I think she should have done that instead!! I mean you've got to stay true to the concept of the comic, which is basically just easy reading gay romance, so getting a little too heavy with motives and internal struggles is inadvisable. But it would be good if Gamzee showed that side of himself in some measure.

I don't know why I wrote all this, Gamzee isn't even one of my favourites.
